Admission Requirements

Admission requirements are different for each type of student. To see specific admission requirements, choose the type of prospective student that best describes you.

First-Time Freshmen

Applicants who are about to obtain or has obtained a high school diploma or GED from a school accredited by a state or regional accrediting agency and has never attended Paine College or any other post-secondary institution of higher education (unless jointly enrolled while completing high school) are referred to as first-time freshmen.

Academic Requirements

  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale from a school accredited by a state or a regional accrediting agency OR a minimum standard score in each area of the General Educational Development (GED)Test
  • 16 units of college preparatory courses from a school accredited by a state or a regional accrediting agency upon graduation. The units must include:
    English 4 units
    Mathematics3 units
    Natural Sciences3 units
    Social Sciences (1 History)3 units
    Electives 3 units
  • Completion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (Paine College SAT Code: 5530) or American College Test (Paine College ACT Code: 0852)

  • Official transcripts, score reports, and other official documents must be received from an authorized institution.
  • Standardized test scores are not required for applicants who have been out of high school for five years or longer.
  • As soon as all documents for the admission process have been received, the application will be evaluated and applicants will be notified by email of the results.

Transfer Students

Applicants who have attended a college or university after high school, but who now want to work toward a degree at Paine College.

Academic Requirements

Applicants who have completed 28 semester credit hours at another regionally accredited post secondary institution must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and be in good academic standing at the last institution attended with the capability to return.

  • Applicants who have completed less than 28 semester credit hours of college work at another regionally accredited post-secondary institution must also submit an official final high school transcript or official GED scores along with SAT or ACT scores.
  • Standardized test scores are not required for applicants who have been out of high school for five years or longer.
  • Failure to submit information about all college work will result in academic sanctions which may include dismissal.
  • dvanced placement credits may be accepted for courses listed in the Paine College Catalog following the receipt of proof that the applicant scored at least three (3) on the advanced placement test.
  • Transfer credits are limited to a maximum of 60 semester credit units.

Transient Students

Students pursuing a degree at another institution who wishes to enroll at Paine College for specific classes to be counted toward their degree.

Admission Requirements

Students applying for entrance as a transient or exchange student must submit:

  • A form or letter signed by the academic dean or registrar of their home institution approving the course(s) to be taken and verifying that the applicant is in good standing and eligible to return to that institution
  • A Completed Paine College application
  • A non-refundable application fee of $25 ($40 for International Students)

Notes

  • If you have attended Paine College before as a transient student and wish to return again as a visiting student, you need to apply as a readmit student and submit an updated transient form or letter.
  • If you wish to change your status to a transfer student after attending as a visiting student, you must complete all transfer requirements.

Re-Admitting Students

Students whose attendance at Paine College has been interrupted for one semester or more.

Admission Requirements

Students who have interrupted attendance for one semester or more and wish to return must apply for re-admission. Applications should be submitted to the Office of Admissions at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the semester in which the student expects to enroll. Official transcripts of all other college work must also be forwarded.

The criteria for re-admission includes:

  • The payment of any outstanding financial obligation
  • The fulfillment of dismissal or suspension conditions
  • Proof of good standing (Transfer Approval Form) from any college attended since last attendance at Paine College

International Students

Students who are not citizens of the United States.

Admission Requirements

International students applying for admissions to Paine College, must first meeting the first-time freshman or transfer student admissions criteria.

International Students must also submit the following:

  • A Completed Paine College application
  • Application fee of $40 in the form of an international money order in U.S. dollars; or a cashier's check from a bank in the United States
  • A completed reference form from an individual who can verify the applicant's academic ability
  • A brief autobiographical essay (500-words typed)
  • GCE (General Certificate of Education)scores or coursework evaluated and approved by a translation agency
  • Course work indicating at least five passes at the "Ordinary" level; one of the passes must be in English; students from non-English speaking countries must provide a certified translation of their high school certificate and transcript. The cost of translation is the applicant's responsibility. See below.

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score - (500 minimum required) or ESL score. (Student for whom English is not the native language are required to exhibit proficiency in the English language). The TOEFL score will be waived if the student provides a sufficient SAT score.
  • SAT scores and ACT scores - The SAT will be waived for some international students if there is evidence the test is not offered in the student's country. However, these students will be required to take the test during the first semester they are enrolled at Paine College.
  • A statement of financial responsibility identifying the persons financially responsible for the applicant's needs during his or her stay in the United States. Include verification of salary from the employer or funds availability statement from the appropriate financial institution.

Notes

  • Federal financial aid is not available for international students so they should be prepared to finance their education at Paine College.
  • The I-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility) will not be issued until the applicant has (1) been accepted by the Office of Admissions, and (2) a statement of financial responsibility has been submitted.

Fort Gordon Students

Paine College is recognized as an adult and military-friendly learning institution that proudly acknowledges men and women who have decided to take on the challenge of furthering their education. To better serve your educational needs, the CAPS program offers an accelerated degree plan. Online and on-site courses are offered every eight weeks for professional military service members, their dependents, and civilians. This will afford you the opportunity to earn your Bachelor's degree in just two years in one of the degree programs we offer. You also have the opportunity to earn college credit by enrolling in the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) course.

Financial aid is available for qualified applicants who complete the FAFSA application online. Additionally, we accept the GI Bill (Post 911 and Montgomery), Tuition Assistance (TA), Veterans benefits (VA), and any other forms of aid from various funding sources. Paine College is a proud supporter of GoArmyEd.com and a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. Students who are active-duty military personnel and their dependents, retirees, Department of Army Civilians, and others with special circumstances.

Requirements for Military Service Members

Military service members must complete the following steps for admission:

  • 1 Submit application form
  • 2 Provide official high school transcript/all previous college transcripts, or a transient letter or a SOCAD agreement. Service member may be accepted for one semester on the basis of AARTS or military service DD Form 214.
  • 3 Provide a copy of AARTS Transcript or DD Form 214, if necessary.
  • 4 Complete Paine College placement tests if necessary. SAT or ACT are not required for military service members.
  • 5 If required, apply for Army Tuition Assistance (TA).
  • 6 Submit photo of Military ID card, if necessary.

Requirements for Military Spouses or Dependents

Military Spouses or Dependents must complete the following steps for admission:

  • 1 Submit application form.
  • 2 Provide official high school transcript/all previous college transcripts.
  • 3 Complete Paine College placement tests, SAT, or ACT test if necessary.
  • 4 Submit photo of Military Dependent ID card, if necessary.

Students seeking admission to the Fort Gordon Resident Center may apply online or with a counselor at the Fort Gordon Resident Center.

  • Students entering degree programs may have to enroll in basic courses or preparatory courses to build skills necessary to complete the Paine College curriculum.
  • Students taking courses but not in a degree program may enroll in a maximum of 12 credits as transient or non-degree students.
  • Should the student desire to pursue a degree, a new application is required.

Requirements for Students Entering on Probation

Students on suspension from a previous institution may enroll as non-degree-seeking students. However, the student:

  • May enroll for one term on a probation status.
  • Must earn a 2.0 GPA to be considered for full admissions.
  • Is not eligible for federal aid or Tuition Assistance, or VA benefits until he/she has earned 12 hrs and 2.0 cum GPA.
